The trip from Nairobi was very long but very beautiful. We passed through some amazing country. At the present we're at an amazing orphanage called Shangilia ("Rejoice" in Swahili). This is truly a wonderful place. There are 45 children here and we are having a blast. Pam, Sherry, Aldo, Jacob, Andrew, and myself all played soccer with the kids this afternoon. It was great... I scored a goal! We've been connecting with the kids this evening through conversations about where we are from and how we feel about Barack Obama. What is most fascinating about this part of Kenya is that we are in Pastor Brown's hometown. We were not aware of that when we were coming here but quickly made the connection. Today for lunch we ate with Pastor Brown's parents and family. It was a warm and beautiful reception and totally a God orchestrated moment. Right now everyone's getting ready for bed... I'm sitting in the high school boy's bunk room/dining hall/meeting area... I can hear the children singing outside... I wish all of you could be here to experience this with the whole team. It is fascinating how this orphanage does so much to sustain themselves: They capture water from a spring and pump it into a gravity feed water system that is chlorinated, they farm all kinds of things from bananas to tea to corn to peanuts... they have a milk cow and tons of chicken's which they sell the eggs to help with costs. They also have a very unique septic system that is earth friendly and actually turns the waste into compost. And the kids are really good at soccer! But did I mention I scored a goal. Tomorrow we travel to Lake Naivasha for a little rest... we've been going at breakneck speed since we landed. The team is doing really well, supporting each, staying healthy, and having a great time. I hope to blog again in the next day or so... or one of the team members may be able to. Pray for Kenya, pray for the children of Shangilia, pray for rain in the dry areas, pray for God to glorify himself in this land of beautiful people. Asante (Thank you) David
